1550 VM tubes are installed on top of the Building B to supply West Quad's domestic hot water. The solar heated water is stored in two 900-gallon storage tanks at the bottom of Building C. In addition to saving energy, VM solar system ensures a consistent supply of hot water for hall residents and its restaurant.

The Solar Water Heating System at the south campus housing is the largest solar water heating system in the USA. It consists of 1550 VM Vacuum tubes.
